Pakse – Arrival in Tad Lo (-)

Arrival in Pakse by plane from Vientiane or Luang Prabang.
You will be met upon arrival in Pakse and transferred to the Bolaven Plateau.

This is a moderately mountainous region with coffee and/or tea plantations . Here we find one of the most famous coffees in the world, sometimes referred to as the "Champagne of Coffee".

This coffee is primarily grown on the Bolaven Plateau by approximately 20,000 families living in the fresh air of 250 villages. It was introduced to Thatheng by the French in the 1920s, but production was initially low. Its growth only began in recent years.

A stop at a plantation will give you various information about coffee production in the country.

Please note: Depending on the season and time of day, you may not be able to observe the entire coffee preparation process.

The plateau is also home to ethnic minorities such as the Lovens , who gave the plateau its name.

Besides the Lovens, the plateau is also home to the Mon-Khmer minorities Alak & Katu .

The Katu are known for carving their coffins, which they keep beneath their homes. This is meticulous work that must be seen to be believed. Among the women, one can still see some with traditional facial tattoos, although this practice is threatened with extinction.

The Suay , who call themselves Kui, are known as excellent elephant trainers for forestry work.

Please note: Seeing elephants at work is not guaranteed and depends heavily on the season, the time of day, and also on the tasks of their mahout.

In fact, many elephants live in semi-freedom in the surrounding forests when they are not working.

Arrival in the afternoon at the Tad Lo Waterfalls .

The Tad Lo Waterfalls are characterized by three waterfalls. The closest is Tad Hang, near the bridge. Tad Lo is the second. But the most impressive is the third, Tad Suong , with its beautiful waterfall, located 10 km upstream.

Caution: The water level may vary depending on recent rainfall. Walking in the waterfall area is easy. However, the ground can be slippery due to the moisture from the waterfalls.

After breakfast,
we meet at 8:00 am and drive to Khong Island .

On the way, we will make a small detour to visit the Pha Suam waterfall and explore the villages of the Lao Teung ethnic groups .

We continue our journey via the city of Pakse , which we cross by Mekong ferry , to visit the fascinating pre-Angkorian ruins of Wat Phou , one of the most spectacular temples. Wat Phou is one of the Laotian World Heritage Sites recognized by UNESCO in 2001. This beautiful Khmer archaeological site dates back to the 5th century, predating the famous Angkor Wat in Cambodia.

Wir setzen unsere Reise mit dem Auto fort und nehmen dann die Fähre von Don Khong, der größten Insel in der Mekong-Region im Süden, bekannt als die 4000 Inseln, eine der spektakulärsten Stätten in Laos.

Don Khone / Spaziergänge, Ausflüge und Besuche – Insel Khong – Pakse (F,M)

Nach dem Frühstück,
Treffpunkt um 08:00 Uhr zur Abfahrt mit einem traditionellen Boot zu den 4000 Inseln an der Grenze von Laos, zu den ruhigen Inseln Don Det und Don Khone.

Don Det und Don Khone sind zwei Inseln mit einer sehr entspannten Atmosphäre, ohne Fahrzeuge, an der Grenze zur Provinz Stung Streng in Kambodscha gelegen. Hier ist alles wirklich ruhig und Strom wird nur abends geliefert.

Im nördlichen Teil der Insel Don Det, in der Nähe des Piers, hat sich ein "Backpacker"-Punkt etabliert, aber der Rest der Insel sowie die Insel Don Khone haben ihr eigenes Gesicht bewahrt, das sich auf den Anbau von Kokosnüssen, Kapokbäumen und Bambus konzentriert.

Die Inseln spielten während der französischen Kolonialzeit (19. Jahrhundert) eine wichtige Rolle bei der Verbindung von Laos mit Kambodscha und Südvietnam.

Um die Wasserfälle zu überwinden, wurden eine Eisenbahnlinie und eine Brücke gebaut, was diesem Ort eine einzigartige Atmosphäre verleiht. Der ideale Ort, um Ihren Aufenthalt zu genießen.

Besuch der Liphi-Wasserfälle.

Die Tad Somphamit-Wasserfälle, lokal auch Lippi-Wasserfälle genannt, sind für die lokalen Gemeinschaften heilig und bedeuten „Geisterfalle“, da sie angeblich böse Geister einfangen.

Nach Ihren Besuchen Transfer zum Dorf Ban Nakhasan, wo Ihr Fahrzeug auf Sie wartet, um Sie zu den Khoneprapheng-Wasserfällen zu bringen, am südlichsten Ende des Landes nahe der kambodschanischen Grenze, um die größten Wasserfälle in Laos zu bewundern.
