Circuit Highlights

Walks in the millennial city of Hanoi, through the 36 lively small merchant guilds of the old quarter and the unmissable historical sites: Confucian Temple of Literature, Museum of Ethnography.
A tour based on encounters, particularly with the Tays in Ban Ho, the Black H'mong in Lao Chai, and also the Dzays in Ta Van. Exchange is the secret of this encounter; you will thus discover the daily life of these ethnic minority peoples. You will also have the opportunity to participate in an ethnic market fair in Bac Ha.
This route showcases all the beauty of the Sa pa region with the fabulous scenery of terraced rice fields hidden behind the morning clouds in Sapa.

1 Hanoi - overnight train departure for Lao Cai (-)

You are already in Hanoi.
Meet with the driver for transfer to the station for the overnight train to Lao Cai. Overnight on the train.

2 Lao Cai early arrival - Sapa / walk to Cat Cat ethnic village (B,L)

Early morning arrival at Lao Cai station,
Welcome and then transfer by road to Sapa. How can one not be captivated by the terraced rice fields hidden behind the morning clouds...

Located at an altitude of 1,650 meters, enjoying a temperate climate, Sapa was an old resort created by the French in the region of Mount Fan Si Pan (3143m - this mountain is considered the roof of Indochina). The main interest of Lao Cai is the mosaic of minorities: H'mong, Red Yao, Tay, Dzay, SaFo ....

Rest at the hotel and lunch at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, walking excursion to Cat Cat, the village of the Black H'mong. The walk takes us to the waterfall in the middle of the village; the first contacts with the H'mong will create unforgettable memories. Return to Sapa by motorbike.

Dinner at leisure and overnight at the hotel.

3 Sapa / discovery, visits and walks: Ham Rong mountain, Muong Hoa valley with villages and terraced rice fields (B,L,D) ~ 6h walk

Breakfast
Meet at 08:30 and depart for a visit to the daily market of Sapa where ethnic groups come to exchange their agricultural products or sell their traditional costumes meticulously handmade by women.
It is also a favorite spot for young couples.
Then head for the ascent of Ham Rong mountain (dragon's jaw) where we cannot miss the opportunity to take superb photos of the region. An interesting walk will lead us to the theater where we will have the opportunity to attend a dance performance of the five ethnic groups of Sapa.

In the afternoon, walk to the Black H'mong villages in Lao Chai and the Dzay villages in Ta Van where we have ample opportunity to discover the specific cultures of each ethnic group.

Overnight with the Dzay allows us to discover the way of life of this ethnic group, rich with approximately 38,000 members.

4 Ethnic village / hike in the ethnic villages of Giang Ta Chai – Ban Ho (B,L,D)~ 6h walk

After breakfast prepared by our local guide,
we continue our hike towards Giang Ta Chai, the village of the Red Yao. In the center of the village, we meet and chat with hospitable villagers. We take the time to admire the authentic landscape of the Muong Hoa valley. Picnic lunch in nature.

In the afternoon, we cross the suspension bridge to continue towards Su Pan, the village of the Black H'mong, from where we descend towards Ban Ho, the village of the Tay.

Expected arrival at the village gate at sunset. This evening, we discover the life of this ethnic group, a good opportunity to learn Vietnamese cuisine; do not hesitate to join us.
Dinner and overnight with the Tay, the house is on stilts.

5 Ban Ho / hike to Muong Khuong – Cao Son (B,L,D)~ 4h walk

After morning farewells to the Tay family,
we head towards the gate of Ban Ho village where our bus awaits us for the return to Sapa and then the road to Cao Son. We will make a small detour through the village of Ta Phin where we will discover the ancestral traditions of the Red Yao.

Stop at the Sino-Vietnamese border to see the confluence of the Red River belonging to Vietnam and the Nam Thi River, belonging to China.

Then we continue towards Muong Khuong and Cao Son, where we will arrive at the end of the day.
Dinner and overnight at a local's home.

6 Cao Son / hike to – Coc Ly and Bac Ha (B,L,D)~ 5h walk

After breakfast,
we stroll around the village of Cao Son to better understand the life of the H'mong of this region, then we continue our hike towards Coc Ly (If we are lucky enough to be there on a Tuesday, we will have the opportunity to see the magnificent colorful H'mong market).
Picnic lunch en route.

A bus awaits us and transports us to Bac Ha, which is the second largest district of the mountainous province bordering China.
It is also the settlement area of several ethnic minorities, and above all, you can see and participate in the largest multicolored market 5km from the Chinese border – a fair held every Sunday.
Dinner and overnight at a local's home in Bac Ha

7 Bac Ha / hike – Nam Kha (B,L,D)~ 6h walk

After breakfast,
continue the hike to the villages around Bac Ha where we meet Flower H'mong, Tay, Zay ....

Lunch in a stilt house and we continue towards the village of Nam Kha which we will reach towards the end of the day.
Dinner and overnight at a Dzay local's home.

8 Nam Kha / hike – Lao Cai and overnight train to Hanoi (B,L)

Enjoy breakfast prepared by our local guide,
And then continue our hike to the town of Bac Ha for lunch where our bus awaits us and takes us to the village of Trung Do for a beautiful walk through the entire village.
Escape for a cruise on the Chay River before returning to Lao Cai.

Dinner at leisure and overnight on the train to Hanoi.
