If you are coming from Luang Prabang, your first step will be to reach Nong Khiaw. Buses depart several times a day, and the journey between Luang Prabang and Nong Khiaw takes between 4 and 5 hours.
From Nong Khiaw, you will need to take a boat upriver. Boat tickets from Nong Khiaw to Muang Ngoi cost approximately 70,000 kips per person. The first boat to Muang Ngoi departs at 11:30 AM and the second at 2:30 PM.

Avoid the rainy season (from May to September) as roads can become slippery, trails difficult to access, and the river level high, which disrupts boat schedules.
