Travel Guide

Flight-Only Bookings

All travel proposals do not include the price of international Round-Trip flights (your Country/Vietnam and/or vice versa).

In case you wish for us to help you purchase your international flights, we will provide you with the prices separately and distinguish the price of the trips from the price of international flights.

We therefore suggest you find your international flights based on your budget and your stay dates.

Once you arrive in Vietnam, everything is taken care of by our Typic Travel Agency such as: Visa, itineraries, accommodation, guide, meals, domestic flights etc …

And it's more practical with the internet to search, then book and purchase them, and we suggest you look at certain sites to compare and find suitable flights:

Prepare for Your Trip!

Preparing your reservation

Planning a trip to Vietnam, Cambodia, or Laos often involves many questions: how long to stay, visa requirements, how to build your itinerary, which destinations to visit, must-see attractions, travel times between cities, and the best accommodation options.

To give us enough time to design your trip carefully, we recommend booking 6 to 12 months before departure. The earlier you book, the more flexibility we have to tailor the itinerary to your preferences.

If you are unable to plan that far ahead, booking 3 to 6 months in advance is still a good option.

Last-minute bookings are possible, but availability may be more limited. Prices may be higher, additional fees may apply, and your preferred guides, hotels, or services may no longer be available.

For the best choice and greater flexibility, we therefore recommend planning your trip as early as possible.

What is the best time to travel to Vietnam?

The choice of when to go, of course, depends on your availability, but climatic criteria (temperature, sunshine, etc.) will certainly influence your decision.

First of all, it's important to know that Vietnam stretches for about 2500 km from north to south. This means there is no good or bad season to visit the Dragon Country. When the weather is bad in one region, it can be very beautiful in another.

Located in the monsoon zone, Vietnam enjoys a hot and humid climate, from north to south.

What is the monsoon?

It is a seasonal phenomenon of wind regimes in intertropical zones. These winds are generated by movements of air masses. This season is characterized by very heavy rainfall.

Depending on your stay (the north, the center or the south), you can get an idea of the weather by consulting the table below:

IN THE NORTH

There are four seasons in the north, unlike the center and south which have two: the dry season and the wet season.

Best time: from November to late April-early May, which is during the Vietnamese winter. It is never hot, sometimes even cool. The weather is often gray and foggy, with occasional rain. You will often have a kind of drizzle that can last for several days, making the atmosphere a bit gloomy. Temperatures can reach 15 to 20 °C during the day and drop to below 10 °C at night. From February to March, in the late evening, there can be beautiful clear spells. A kind of spring sets in from mid-March to early May. Then it's summer.
From May to October: Although it rains, this period is still the driest of the year, with the highest temperatures. On average, it is 30 to 40 °C. At the end of the season, from September to November, the mountainous north can experience some quite powerful typhoons, coming from the South China Sea, this is autumn.

Less favorable period: July and August. Torrential rains, sometimes very violent.

IN THE CENTER

Best time: from February to May.
Avoid the period between November and late January: it rains a lot. The summer monsoon runs from May to November. From May to August are the hottest months of the year.
In the highlands: in Dalat, Ban Mê Thuột, Pleiku, the temperature is much cooler than on the coast, due to the altitude.

Less favorable period: September and October. This is the time of monsoon changes; typhoons can form and hit the coast, and floods are frequent.

IN THE SOUTH

Best time: from December to April, this is the dry and sunny period. February is the month with the least rain of the year. March and April are the hottest months, with an average of 34 to 35 °C.

Less favorable period: from July to September, the rainiest period. Beware of sudden floods that occur in the Mekong Delta between mid-August and mid-September.

Cambodia enjoys a climate similar to that of southern Vietnam. Regarding temperatures: from 20 to 30 °C between November and March with the possibility of 35-40°C in April and May.

visuel-cambodge

Laos enjoys a tropical climate: rainy season (high heat and humidity) from June to September. Dry season between October and February. Take into account the coolness in the mountainous regions of the north. Hot season between March and June.

Note that you can travel all year round in Vietnam, Cambodia or Laos.

Travel with peace of mind!

TYPIC Travel is an inbound travel agency specializing in organizing tours and travel services in Vietnam and Indochina. We do not provide or sell travel insurance.

It is therefore essential for you to have travel insurance from your country of origin before you leave. It must cover in particular: visuel-assurance

  • Health insurance providing reimbursement for medical expenses abroad. Carefully check the validity and extent of this coverage before departure (especially if you intend to practice certain types of activities: diving, motorcycling, etc.).
  • If you are registered with the French Social Security and a complementary mutual insurance company, you are probably covered by international medical assistance. Check the validity and extent of this coverage before your departure. Otherwise, most insurance companies offer travel coverage.
  • Repatriation insurance
  • Insurance covering cancellation fees, lost luggage, etc.
  • Special accident insuranc: Travel insurance coupled with an international credit card depends on the policy subscribed by the bank. They are not automatic. Check with your bank for the guarantees provided by your international bank card.
  •  Legal expenses insurance
  •  Electronic device insurance

Most importantly, make sure you understand what your insurance does not cover before you travel.

Time difference

horaire

Vietnam follows Indochina Time (UTC+7) throughout the year and does not observe daylight saving time.

The time difference therefore depends on where you are traveling from and whether your country observes daylight saving time. As a general guide:

  • United Kingdom: Vietnam is usually 6–7 hours ahead.
  • France and Central Europe: Vietnam is usually 5–6 hours ahead.
  • US East Coast (New York, Washington D.C.): Vietnam is usually 11–12 hours ahead.
  • US West Coast (Los Angeles, San Francisco): Vietnam is usually 14–15 hours ahead.
  • Japan and South Korea: Vietnam is 2 hours behind.
  • Singapore and Malaysia: Vietnam is 1 hour behind.
  • Thailand, Laos and Cambodia: same time zone as Vietnam.

Please note that the exact time difference may vary depending on daylight saving time in your country.

Adjusting to Local Time

After a long-haul flight, try to adapt to Vietnamese meal and sleeping times as soon as possible to help reduce jet lag.

Daily life in Vietnam tends to start early. In many places, especially in rural areas, people are already active from 5:00–6:00 AM. Breakfast is often enjoyed early, lunch is generally served around 11:30 AM–12:30 PM, and dinner usually begins from around 6:00 PM.

Starting your day early is also a great way to experience Vietnam at its most lively — from morning markets and street food stalls to local exercise routines and everyday life before the heat of the day.

Opening Hours

Opening hours vary depending on the establishment and destination, but as a general guide:

  • Government offices: usually open Monday to Friday during standard business hours, with a lunch break.
  • Banks: generally open Monday to Friday, with some branches also operating on Saturday mornings.
  • Shops and restaurants: often open daily, especially in major cities and tourist areas.
  • Local markets: usually start very early in the morning and remain active until the afternoon.

Opening hours may vary on weekends, public holidays, and during major festivals such as Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year).

How to Obtain a Visa for Vietnam

To obtain a Visa for Vietnam, two methods:

drapeau-vietnamVisa requirements for Vietnam depend on your nationality, length of stay, and purpose of travel. Some travelers are eligible for visa-free entry, while others will need to obtain a visa before departure.

Citizens of several countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom, can currently enter Vietnam without a visa for stays of up to 45 days, provided they meet the applicable entry requirements. If you plan to stay longer than the visa-free period, or if your nationality is not eligible for visa exemption, you will need to obtain an appropriate visa.

Method 1: Apply for a Vietnam e-Visa

For most international travelers requiring a visa, the Vietnam e-Visa is the simplest option.

Vietnam currently offers e-Visas to citizens of all countries and territories. An e-Visa may be valid for up to 90 days, with either single or multiple entries.

The application is completed online through the official Vietnam Immigration Department e-Visa portal.

You will generally need to:

  • complete the online application form;
  • upload a copy of your passport information page and a recent portrait photo;
  • provide your intended entry and exit information;
  • pay the applicable visa fee online;
  • download your approved e-Visa once issued.

The official e-Visa fee is currently USD 25 for a single-entry visa and USD 50 for a multiple-entry visa.

Make sure that the information on your e-Visa matches your passport exactly and that your chosen entry and exit points are accepted for e-Visa holders.

Method 2: Apply Through a Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate

Depending on your nationality, purpose of travel, or visa requirements, you may also apply through a Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate in your country of residence.

Application procedures, required documents, processing times, and fees may vary between diplomatic missions. We therefore recommend checking directly with the relevant Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate before submitting your application.

Need Help with Your Visa?

If you are unsure which option applies to your trip, TYPIC Travel can provide guidance and practical assistance based on your itinerary and travel plans.

However, visa regulations may change. We strongly recommend checking the latest requirements with the Vietnam Immigration Department or the Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate in your country before departure.

How Long Is a Vietnam Visa Valid?

The validity of your Vietnam visa depends on the type of visa granted and the period stated on the visa.

For most international travelers, a Vietnam e-Visa may be valid for up to 90 days, with either single or multiple entries.

Contact us for more information!

Note: You can request a visa extension in major cities such as: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh or Danang by paying additional fees.

Who needs a visa to enter and stay in Vietnam?

Visa requirements depend on your nationality, length of stay, and purpose of travel.

Citizens of certain countries may enter Vietnam visa-free for a limited period, while travelers from other countries must obtain an appropriate visa before arrival.

Vietnam currently offers 45-day visa-free entry to citizens of a number of eligible countries, while additional exemptions may apply under bilateral agreements.

If your nationality is not covered by a visa exemption, you can generally apply for a Vietnam e-Visa, available to citizens of all countries and territories and valid for up to 90 days.

As visa policies may change, always check the latest official requirements before departure.

There are two ways to obtain a visa for Laos

drapeau-laosFor French nationals, travelers' passports must be valid for at least 3 months before the arrival date and 6 months after the return date. You can obtain your visa for Laos either at the Embassy of the Lao People's Democratic Republic or upon arrival at immigration.

To obtain a visa from the embassy, you must provide an application form (Download here) to which you must attach an identity photo and a flat fee of 35 euros. You can submit your visa application directly to the Embassy of Laos, or send it by registered mail with acknowledgment of receipt.

The processing time for a visa at the Embassy of Laos is 72 hours after receipt of the application. For visas by mail, allow 1 week to 10 days (Note that there will be shipping fees). You will then have up to 3 months from the visa issuance date to arrive in Laos; beyond this period, your visa will be considered expired. The validity period of a tourist visa is one month from the date of entry into Lao territory.
