The oldest Khmer pagoda in Vietnam

Ang Korajaborey Temple (commonly known as An Temple) was built around the 10th century. In August 1994, the pagoda was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a national historical and cultural monument.

The main gate of the pagoda opens to the east, the back gate opens to the west, leading to the main hall on a high embankment of about 2m. In the middle of the main hall is an altar according to the Nam Tong Buddhist sect, solely for worshipping Shakyamuni Buddha with the main Buddha statue standing 2.1m tall, with a gentle expression. Around it, there are about 50 large and small Buddha statues carved from stone or wood, each statue has a very lively spirit, and are works of art of great value. The walls around the main hall are picturesque paintings telling the life of Shakyamuni Buddha. In particular, on the ceiling of the main hall are four large murals, depicting four stages of the Buddha's life: birth, ordination, enlightenment, and nirvana. Although nearly 10 centuries have passed, the large and small architectural works as well as countless antiques, artifacts, carvings, and reliefs of the temple are still preserved in good condition.

Not only the oldest temple in the province with beautiful architecture, Ang Korajaborey Pagoda is also the venue for many Khmer people's festivals such as Chol Chnam Thmay (New Year celebration); Sene Dolta (ancestor ceremony); Ok Om Bok (moon worship ceremony). Every year during the festival, the pagoda attracts tens of thousands of tourists from the province and other places for worship and visits. Not only that, but Ang Korajaborey Temple is also the chosen venue for organizing large religious ceremonies every year such as the giving of teachings, Buddha's birthday, initiation ceremony, and exit ceremony for monks according to the traditions of the Khmer people.

It is no exaggeration to say that Ang Korajaborey Temple is not only a temple but also an important cultural, artistic, religious, and educational center, a place to preserve, maintain, and disseminate important doctrines, books, newspapers, literary and artistic works of the local people as well as visitors. The statues, murals, and decorative carvings of the temple are architectural and artistic works, and typical. For this reason, Ang Korajaborey Pagoda has long been the pride of the province in particular and the Khmer community in general, and is one of the most attractive places to visit when coming to the Mekong Delta.
