Cycling tours, mountain trekking, trails..., many Vietnamese tour operators are innovating and enhancing their offerings to attract more and more tourists. With trekking in particular, which has gained its reputation in Vietnam in just a few years. Young urban dwellers are particularly fond of it. Faced with this rapidly expanding demand, the options are multiplying.

The definition of the word trekking has constantly evolved over the last twenty years. It initially referred to a hike specifically undertaken in a mountainous region. Today, trekking refers to an organized itinerant hike lasting several days. Bivouacking is its specificity. This mode of travel can also be defined as a long hike that consists of going from point A to point B or making a loop.

A communion with Mother Nature

A member of the K'Ho trekking group for several years, Nguyen Dang Huy is enthusiastic about this activity: "Trekking is excellent for health. It helps improve the internal or external metabolism of the body". As it is an activity based on walking, trekking can strengthen muscle capacity and joint flexibility. It is even a recommended activity for people suffering from osteoporosis and back pain.

Trekking helps stabilize blood pressure and is effective in preventing diabetes and treating arthritis. It is also a practical alternative to cosmetic surgery, as it can - within limits - slow down aging. Furthermore, this activity helps reduce stress to regain a good mood and considerable personal satisfaction.

"Selling plane tickets 'nails' me to an office chair eight hours a day, five days a week. My wife, although working in another sector, is also an office worker. Before we started trekking, we were often sick when the weather changed," recalls Dang Huy.
Thanks to a friend, the couple became members of the K'Ho hiking group and participated in excursions to Bu Gia Map National Park, in Binh Phuoc province (South), and in several forests in Lam Dong (Central Highlands). A short trip often lasts two days and one night, while longer excursions can take up to four days.

Maintaining physical and mental health during a trek

"I love it! It allows me to discover the beauty of nature and escape the stressful city life. It's a real breath of fresh air for me, literally and figuratively," he explains with a wide smile. While people's lives are becoming more and more comfortable, and they move less and less to work in enclosed spaces (even taking their motorbike for 50 meters...), such sports modes help maintain physical but also mental health by promoting encounters, exchanges, discovery of nature and other cultures.

Dang Duy and his group organize a trek once a month. His wife and he also regularly jog to maintain good physical condition.

"Our group has over 30 members aged 8 to 70. We are amateur athletes. This explains why we opt for circuits that are not too difficult, so that everyone can complete them without too many obstacles," emphasizes Dang Duy. He continues: "The most important thing for me is that, thanks to trekking, my health has improved a lot. It's like night and day! As a result, it's been a long time since I've been
